Mitsubishi to Use Toshiba Batteries in Minicab MiEV

Mitsubishi will use Toshiba’s lithium-ion batteries in its upcoming Minicab MiEV small electric commercial truck.

The Minicab MiEV is set to have a range of 100 km (62 miles) on a full charge, compared with the i-MiEV’s 160 km (100 miles), in a bid to keep costs low.

In July-2010, Toshiba said it was working jointly with Mitsubishi to develop lithium-ion battery system for use in automaker’s electric vehicles.

Super Charge ion Battery (SCiB) is Toshiba’s breakthrough rechargeable battery that offers excellent safety, long-life and rapid charge. In short, SCiB cells are capable of recharging from empty to 90% capacity in just five minutes, a rather astounding advance over current Li-ion cells.

Mitsubishi worked with GS Yuasa Corp. to produce lithium-ion batteries for its i-MiEV electric car.
